The colorful vendors on streets, the Arno River with the ancient Ponte Vecchio stretching over the water, the beautiful Duomo of Florence, glowing with pink and white and green marble, the Piazza della Signoria where folks meet and watch each other, the Vespas zipping by, the sounds of a string quartet near the Loggia dei Lanzi–I miss them all. Brunelleschi, Dome: Brunelleschi, Dome of the Cathedral of Florence, 1420-36
Speakers: Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker
While we have been in Florence several times, in recent years we have explored other parts of the Italian boot, and the unique and beautiful culture of Sicily.
I loved those journeys, but I am eager to go back to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, the former Republic ruled by the fascinating Medicis.
This time I will take more photos. Maybe I will climb to the top of Brunelleschi’s dome and look out at the tile roofs below. Then I will pose with one of the street mimes and eat gelato in the piazza.
Perhaps I will invite you to come along.
