Every 5 years since the early 18th century, this small town in northern Italy has produced a Passion Play. The production in 2015 will involve local 700 actors and crew. Performances will be held in an outdoor amphitheater that seats 2500. This photo shows the town of Sordevolo set against the Alps of the Piedmont region of Italy.
In 2015, performances of the Passion Play will be held from June through September and would be a wonderful experience to include in a custom tour of Italy. The setting in northern Italy suggests the inclusion of a visit to nearby Turin, where an exposition of the Shroud of Turin will take place from the 19th of April to the 24th of June in 2015. To coordinate a visit to the Shroud with a performance of the Sordevolo Passion Play, tickets for the play would best be booked for a performance in one of the first three weekends of June. For either of these events, early bookings are essential.
In addition to Turin, other nearby destinations to consider include Milan, Venice, and/or Genoa. Not too far off are Florence, Bologna, and Siena. Other Italy destinations could be included as well. That’s our specialty–tailoring the trip to the traveler!
